About

Wilmington Child and Family Psychiatry

Dr. Fawcett is a board-certified psychiatrist. She received her medical degree from Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine, then went on to complete her psychiatry residency at Louisiana State University–Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. While in Louisiana, she had the opportunity to work with children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients across a variety of clinical settings. During this time, she gained in-depth experience working with peripartum women as they navigated the specific challenges surrounding pregnancy and the postpartum period. Dr. Fawcett then pursued a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry, which she completed at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. During this fellowship, she worked alongside peers and faculty who helped deepen her understanding of childhood development, attachment, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. She worked closely with both children and their parents to address emotional and behavioral challenges within the family system as a whole. Due to her growing interest in therapy, Dr. Fawcett trained with the Psychoanalytic Center of the Carolinas as a Pearsall Fellow to further develop her knowledge and skills. Through this opportunity, she took a specific focus on the challenges of adolescence. Dr. Fawcett is also a certified facilitator for Circle of Security, a psychoanalytically informed parenting model that supports secure attachment and emotional growth. Dr. Fawcett created Wilmington Child and Family Psychiatry with the goal of expanding access to psychiatric care in Wilmington and Eastern North Carolina. Her training in general psychiatry allows her the flexibility to diagnose and treat patients of all ages. However, she most enjoys working with children, teens, young adults, and their parents as they navigate the unique challenges at each developmental stage. Wilmington Child and Family Psychiatry was developed with the intention to do more than just diagnosis and medication management; it aims to integrate psychotherapy and behavioral strategies into each session so that treatment is robust, comprehensive, and holistic.
